Head down running from the beast
Break neck speed taking all my breath
Black feet scraped and scarred and dripping blood
Rain come down take me with your flood

I came to, and I was running from you
Feel your breath on the back of my neck

Where have I
Come to be
Is this all
That's left for me

I wish that I was still there
I want to keep on breathing

Bulls roar loud
Snakes move past my feet
No teeth, no hands've set me free
Bones start rattling 'round inside my head
I don't know if I'm alive or dead

I came to and I was running from you
Feel your breath on the back of my neck

Where have I
Come to be
Is this all
That's left for me

I wish that I was still there
I want to keep on breathing

Dig deep kicking up rock and dirt and sand
Out of this lifeless valley, bones in hand
Over these mountains to the seas of life
Leave this desert for the sick and damned

The dry bone valley is a biblical reference to a valley of bones that were wasted. God spoke breath into them and they grew flesh becoming a great army. I the song the bones represent the state that people are in, subject to are imperfect human nature which we cannot run from although we try. The beast is the devil who encourages our nature to do evil. The flood is the biblical flood that killed everyone except Noah and his family(and his sons wives) which is usually a symbol of purging of our human natures.

My interpretation of the lyrics is someone running, escaping from a biblical flood running through 'dry bone valley' - "rain come down take me with your flood" - "feel your breath on the back of my neck" (the water) - "i want to keep on breathing" (instead of drowning) - "bulls roar loud, snakes move past my feet" (wildlife running away from the flood as well)

I believe that "running from the beast" means running/escaping death (and the flood)

I don't think that the lyrics are without a real meaning, but yes they are quite profound though. For example in these lyrics i find that the person's instincts tell him to run far away from someone, perhaps a lover, because his physical self cannot cope. But on the other hand he's aware that he still would want to stay in the relationship (even if it's harmful to him).
