[Valjean is standing over Marius at the barricade.]

Valjean
God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.
Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy
You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die
Let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.

My son will be in the reserves for the next 8 years. Even before that, this has been a pray for him that i have prayed over him. That the lord would continue the good work in him that he has begun... That the wonderfulness of my son would be enhanced rather than swallowed up and destroyed by his service in the armed forces.

Jean valjean is standing over marius praying to god that he will live and is telling god to let him die instead because valjean is old and marius is young and in love with cosette.
