Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this world's gone crazy
And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn't seem so hazy

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say?
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don't know
And Grandpa, let's wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say, and forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

My papaw told of stories long ago.
He told of long winters and playing in the snow.
My papaw met my mamaw when he was 9 years old.
60 plus years together, bless his soul.

My papaw was in the navy way back when.
He called my mamaw beautiful & kitten.
He had a chicken named prissy, man, he loved that hen.
They didn't have computers way back then.

My papaw walked to school every day.
Sunshine, winter snow, or heavy rain.
He always made you smile, even if he was in pain.
He use to sit outside and watch me play.

October 26, 2011 my papaw died.
Oh, my tears, i didn’t try to hide.
I asked god why he took him, but i never got the why.
So i cried, and i cried, and i cry.
