I'm only assuming he's writing this from a girl's perspective... so here's my outlook:
The girl came in to get her stuff because she's leaving. The guy got drunk (the chemicals in your body) and cheated on her. She knows he knows what he did was wrong and he's begging for forgiveness. But she's got to maintain her dignity and stick to "her rules" and not come back to him. She wants to stay with him, but knows she can't. He broke his "forever" promise.
