Joey Graceffa – Don't Wait lyrics

[Verse 1]
I know you've got a strong heart
It's written in the stars
Behind the castle walls
You've hid your light
But when you let the past go
Your story unfolds
Look out your window
Into the night

[Hook]
The darkness can be such a lonely place on your own
I'll be your compass so you'll never feel alone

[Chorus]
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Who says you can't explore
Who says you can't explore
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Find what you're looking for
Find what you're looking for

[Verse 2]
Are the monsters in your head now?
Stare them all down

If they come back around
You'll be alright
And when the journey gets tough
Just know that you're enough
You're like a warrior
Keep up the fight

[Hook]
The darkness can be such a lonely place on your own
I'll be your compass so you'll never feel alone

[Chorus]
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Who says you can't explore
Who says you can't explore
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Find what you're looking for
Find what you're looking for

[Bridge]
Don't don't don't wait
Don't you wait, no
Don't don't don't wait
Don't don't don't wait
Don't you wait, no
Don't don't don't wait

[Chorus]
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Who says you can't explore
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Find what you're looking for
Find what you're looking for

[Chorus]
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Who says you can't explore
Who says you can't explore
Don't wait for the world to be ready
Find what you're looking for
Find what you're looking for

Joey suffered for many years as he found it very difficult to accept the person he is. He went so far as to try and hide that person and keep quite the fact that he is gay. He has now accepted the person he is and has come out, thanks to the help of some of his best friends. His life is now so much better for coming out and he is hinting at the fact he should not have waited so long! Whilst he found it difficult when he believed he was on his own, he realises he will always have, and has always had, help from others. The key theme is that you should never wait for the world to accept the person that you are, or let this from stopping you yourself from accepting the person that you are.

"Are the monster in your head now?" is referring to the initial stages of realisation, where you then immediately start denying your own thoughts and the person you are. You then go into thinking all the bad things that could happen from this. 'Stare them all down' refers to the first time you accept yourself and instead of rejecting the person you are, you reject the bad thoughts about that person!

Joey suffers high anxiety and gets hate every now and then. I think this is him explaining how its not going to bother him anymore and he's breaking out when really he should have years ago. He's saying how he waited to long to show his amazingness and next time he's not going to wait for the world to be ready :).
