Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

    This song to me sounds like it's written by a soldier in WW2 during the night when he was alone and had night watch duty. As he watches, he sees that all is well, all around him, and he feels safe, knowing that God is near. As the wee hours pass, he praises God and Thanks him for never leaving him alone. Never leaving his side. This soldier's faith in God is strong and he never doubts the Lord is watching over him, as he watches over the troops. You can tell his trust in the Lord's protection comforts him in his time of need.
