Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of
Wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible
Swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
CHORUS
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watchfires of a hundred circling
Camps;
They have building Him an altar in the evening dews and
Damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring
Lamps;
Our God is marching on.
CHORUS [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/i/independence_day/battle_hymn_of_the_republic.html ]
I have read a fiery gospel, writ in burnished rows of steel;
"As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall
Deal;
Let the hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
Since God is marching on."
CHORUS
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call
Retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgement
Seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! by jubliant,
My feet!
Our God is marching on.
CHORUS
In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the
Sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.
This song is about how jesus already died and rose again, how he died for men trapped in sin, and that the american troops sacrifice their lives to make the american people free from tyranny in my opinion

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Truly! While it was for our soldiers, it is still for us today. For all the believers fighting for god. And we are not fighting a losing battle. As it says in revelations, god will crush satan. He will prevail! Glory glory hallelujah! Thank you to all that have served and for those serving now. May god be with you.

Yet another song that celebrates the perverse death cult of those kooky christians. "god" spare us from the "righteous".

It is a song showing the justice of their cause. It was to inspire the troops to keep marching because god was with them and they were just, so they cannot fail

To me it means war is a terrible thing, but when we fight the good fight, fight for what is right, fight against injustice and tyranny then how can god not be on our side.
