George Jones
The Grand Tour lyrics

Written by G. Richey, C. Taylor & N. Wilson

Step right up, come on in
If you'd like to take the grand tour
Of a lonely house that once was home sweet home
I have nothing here to sell you
Just some things that I will tell you
Some things I know will chill you to the bone

Over there sits the chair
Where she brang the paper to me
And sit down on my knee and whisper oh I love you
But now she's gone forever
And this old house will never be the same
Without the love love that we once knew

Straight ahead that's the bed
Where we lay and love together
And lord knows we had a good thing going here
See her picture on the table
Don't it look like she'd be able
Just to touch me and say good morning dear

There's her rings all her things
And her clothes are in the closet
Just like she left them when she tore my world apart
As you leave you'll see the nursery
Oh she left me without mercy
Taking nothing but our baby and my heart
Step right up, come on in

Good Grief: Song analysis by Dr BLT

There's no way of making grief feel good, but the best way to handle the loss of a loved one, through divorce, death, or departure of any kind is by facing the loss head on.

That's what George Jones does in Grand Tour, written by G. Richey, C. Taylor & N. Wilson. He invites us in to see his psyche, and he bears his soul and his heartache in a way that's believable. If you believe he's been there, he probably has. The pain is deeply embedded in every tone of his voice.

Another good way of handling grief is to invite others in to view the sorrow you suffer. In many cases, supportive friends and family members are enough to get you through the storm. Sometimes a significantly clinically severe level of depression can ensue, requiring professional attention.

Memories of loss are often permanently fused with memories of when the person was still alive---memories one treasures most of all. It could be the little things, and it often is, the little things about the person, and about the experiences you may have shared with that person that become the most treasured of all.

Over there sits the chair
Where she brang the paper to me
And sit down on my knee and whisper oh I love you
But now she's gone forever
And this old house will never be the same
Without the love love that we once knew

Straight ahead that's the bed
Where we lay and love together
And lord knows we had a good thing going here
See her picture on the table
Don't it look like she'd be able
Just to touch me and say good morning dear

The memories become all the more vivid after one realizes the profoundness of the loss.

There's her rings all her things
And her clothes are in the closet
Just like she left them when she tore my world apart
As you leave you'll see the nursery
Oh she left me without mercy
Taking nothing but our baby and my heart
Step right up, come on in

When you compare the grief George Jones conveys in the Grand Tour, and compare it with Beyonce's Irreplacable,

http://www.completealbumlyr...

you'll discover that different personalities process grief differently. With Beyonce's song, a narcissistically wounded ego speaks louder than any real sense of intimacy lost, but, then again, the song may also reflect a different stage of the grieving process---that of anger (bordering on rage in this case). In the song George Jones made such a big hit, one gets the sense that he's sad and depressed and that he's still a long ways away from acceptance, the final stage in the grieving process (one that is often never reached).

Good grief? Good heavens, no! But when it comes to processing that grief, and when it comes to the willingness to be vulnerable in the bearing of that grief, and the wearing of that grief on one's sleeve, George Jones is pretty
