If you read the book "i heart you, you haunt me" by lisa schroeder, it brings a whole new understanding to this song. In the story this girl looses her boyfriend who had made a promise to always stay with her and he ends up being a ghost, and he plays this song during the book. Very good song though, i really like evanescence, and especially amy lee, she's so amazing.

I think that this song is about suicide. It means that she isnt afraid to die because she knows that somehow and somewhere she will meet her lover again. She doesn't regret her decision to kill herself because after all the mistakes she has made with him. Hes crying as she "fades to black" because he is afraid to lose her.

This song is about a girl dying in her lovers arms and it's cool how she extends the small moment to a long understanding song

Yeah, i think it's about a suicide. I believe that the person who's about to die doesn't regret her decision, because she's confident that she and her love will meet again. However, i think that their might be a little doubt about where she'll end up... "look for me in the white forest, hiding in a hollow tree" might mean that she's hiding somewhere, so that she won't be taken away before she makes good on her promise that they'll meet again. Brilliant song, very poetic lyrics.

I think that this was supposed to dipict a suicide. Shes leaving... On the edge of death and her love is holding her in his arms as the life escapes her. Hes crying as she fades away over her decision... Thats how he can "hear" her... For the fact that shes dying and its what she wants. The white forest is death... And very possibly a place she remembers from life that is merely being infused into the world beyond life. >. < idk... Thats what i think
