left at first light Friday morning

Little;Dan and Becky wave good-bye

They're;gonna have to share the weight together

Idle;hands will see a good farm slowly die Gone.

to Shiloh for the Union Shoulder
to shoulder side, by side

Gone;to Shiloh hope, springs eternal
flags and bullets start to fly April's

come and the air smells fresh with rain
watched his shadow fade around the bend He's
headed for a different kind of thunder
the stunned surprise in the eyes of dying men Gone

to Shiloh for the Union
to shoulder side, by side
to Shiloh time, passes slowly
flags and bullets start to fly The

old black rooster singin' down that dirt road

His;steps seem bold his, manner fancy free

I;pray we see him alive and well in the fall here Than
that Godforsaken place in Tennessee Gone

to Shiloh for the Union

Shoulder;to shoulder side, by side

Gone;to Shiloh men, stand united

When;flags and bullets start to fly After

all this if, we should prevail

Heaven;help the South
Sherman comes their way

One of the most emotive songs that speaks and breathes the sadness of the american civil war. The cadence is a funeral and marching dirge.

The Union CD is an _amazing body of work. The DVD that came with it was disappointed. It was only a short infomercial. Did I mention "short"? ;-) For the $25 spent I hoped for a longer video with at least one complete performance. Oh well, thank god for YouTube!!!

I would say this is a song about.. The Civil War. Fantastic album laced with Americana. Its about a farmer who goes to Shiloh - to fight for The Union- but the result may not be as simple or as sweet as any would hope. Excellent song. Brilliant album
