Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/elton_john/candle_in_the_wind.html ]
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
Goodye Norma Jean
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Pretty self explanatory i'd say. It's about marilyn monroe, and elton john's love and respect for her... And the media's horrible ways

I think it is about a young man's infatuation with marilyn monroe and as he reflects on her life obviously much younger than she and he describes her extraordinary appeal as he watches a movie with her in it from the 22nd row in a movie theatre.

Great, sad, nostalgic song- one of the greatest ever written
This song has a good meaning. And elton was saying that she a real person not just some person with blonde hair red lipstick cick. This song made me cry when i first herd it at my bestfreinds funreal. I have to say this is a great song with a great meaning.
I love this song! It really shows what marilyn monroe's life was really like. I mean, when most people think of her, instantly some blonde-hair, red lipstick, diva pops into your mind. But, marilyn was a real person, just like everyone else.
