Dropout Year – Best Friends For Never lyrics

80 proof is no excuse,
An apology so insincere,
Out of your mouth,
We sing out loud for everyone to hear.
(And I heard)

But in my own defense,
I feel I've been more than patient,
The one thing that I can't stand,
Is the fact you show no remorse or class,
Enough to own up to this mistake.
(It's your mistake)

Words fell short,
As your lies grew stronger
And through it all I always loved her
When you think things are getting better,
Remember we're best friends for never,
Because of this I'm so much stronger,
Took a while but I moved on,
So when you think things are getting better,
Remember we're best friends for never.

Don't initiate a conversation,
That instigates a confrontation,
I found a new best friend in hatred,
That says it's too damn late to save this,
You're so good at making bad decisions,
But even better at burning bridges,
Knowing everything that I know now,
I never would have put the fire out.
I'd rather watch you choke on the smoke,
From the flames,
Until I know that only ashes remain.
(Ashes remain)

Words fell short,
As your lies grew stronger,
Through it all I always loved her
When you think things are getting better,
Remember we're best friends for never,
Because of this I'm so much stronger,
Took a while but I moved on,
So when you think things are getting better,
Remember we're best friends for never.

When I gave an inch,
You'd take the mile,
If I gave it you'd take it,
You claim to be the story,
And that's all you'll ever be,
Just a page in your own diary,
That ain't that great to read.

Words fell short,
As your lies grew stronger,
Through it all I always loved her
When you think things are getting better,
Remember we're best friends for never,
Because of this I'm so much stronger,
Took a while but I moved on,
So when you think things are getting better,
Remember we're best friends,
Remember we're best friends for never.

I see it as a couple having troubles. They started as best friends now they are involved. They are fighting and the girl never accepts the blame. The boy is loosing patience with her, waiting for her to change. But he loves her and its difficult for him to get away from her. Even when 'things are getting better'. He reminds himself that they are no longer friends. You can't have a happy relationship f your not friends.

This song is just really beautifully written and played. Someone's having trouble letting someone special go, perhaps hurting on the inside too. He can't forget her, and knows that she can't forget him either, but so much drama has made it seem like they're not best friends "forever" anymore, but best friends for never- the type of friend who can't just be dropped without regret. Even though they're better not being friends, life just wouldn't be "right" without one being the other person's life. Even with so much of what's already went on.
