Daylight again, following me to bed
I think about a hundred years ago, how my fathers bled
I think I see a valley, covered with bones in blue
All the brave soldiers that cannot get older been askin' after
Hear the past a callin', from Ar- -megeddon's side
When everyone's talkin' and noone is listenin', how can we

(Do we) find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground

Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground
Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
(Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground)

This song is about the high cost of war, especially the Vietnam War, something the people who were sending troops into battle weren't willing to admit. The students protesting in the streets were also paying the price, as illustrated by Kent State. This was such an unpopular war at the time, and many musicians were making their feelings known through their music. This song was one of the many protest songs written and sung for that purpose at the time. It speaks of the loss of the young and the innocent that always comes with war. This is one of many songs that helped to unite all ages against the War.

The cost of freedom is being willing to give up your life for what you believe. People go looking for freedom as if it's something like treasure that can be found buried in the ground. But it's only when we are willing to give up everything that we realize It's value. We can't live and know what it's until we have chosen it above life itself.
