Lately I've been seeing things
Belly button piercings in the sky at night
When we're side by side
And I don't mean to rain on anybody's cabaret
One of those games you're gonna lose
But you wanna play it just incase
And now it's getting dark and the sky looks sticky
More like black treacle than tar
Black treacle
Somebody told the stars you're not coming out tonight
Until we find a place to hide [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/arctic_monkeys/black_treacle.html ]
Does it help you stay up late?
Does it help you concentrate?
Is it true you win when you chew your chin?
And ruining your fun
And you talk the talk alright
Do you walk the walk or catch the train?
You wanted it, you got it
But you don't want it now
Now it's getting dark and the sky looks sticky
More like black treacle than tar
Black treacle
Somebody told the stars you're not coming out tonight
Until we find a place to hide
And now I'm out of place and I'm not getting any wiser
I feel like the Sundance Kid behind a synthesiser
And I tried last night to pack away the laugh
Like a key under the mat
But it never seems to be there when you want it

Sorry to put a damper on your fun but it is definately 'cabriolet' not 'caberet', i have seen them live numerous times and it is definately cabriolet. It would be too mainstream, normal and too the meaning to be cabrolet, like in many other songs, for alex :) please change.

"and so they found a place to hide" not "until we find a place to hide"

I have the cd, inside the cd sleeve are the lyrics to this song. It is 100% "more like black treacle than tar" unless alex turner get's his own lyrics printed wrong. No say sorry and play nice!

It's 'more like black treacle than time'! And that does make sense!

How bizarre, could have sworn it was "cabaret" but on listening carefully, i have to admit sounds a helluva lot like "cab-ro-let". Well spotted people!

It is in fact "tar" not "thyme". Treacle is british slang for molasses therefore tar is the correct word in the lyrics.

Heroin is black treacle. The powder turns an icky treacle when chasing the dragon. Or am i just reading too much into innocent lyrics about confectionery?

1st verse, it's: i don't mean to rain on anyone's cabriolet (pronounced cab-ro-lay in northern england) a cabriolet is an open top convertible car. This is exactly the kind of word play that alex uses in his songs. Raining on a cabaret would just be bollocks!
In the chorus the last line is:'... And so they found a place to hide. ' alex is referring to the stars that aren't comin out.
