I heard, that you're settled down,
That you, found a girl and your married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things, I didn't give to you.

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited,
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded,
That for me, it isn't over.

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best, for you too.
Don't forget me, I beg, I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah
.

You'd know, how the time flies.
Only yesterday, was the time of our lives.
We were born and raised in a summer haze,
Bound by the surprise of our glory days.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited,
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face & that you'd be reminded,
That for me, it isn't over.

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best for you too.
Don't forget me, I beg, I remember you say,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead", yay.

Nothing compares, no worries or cares.
Regret's and mistakes they're memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best for you.
Don't forget me, I beg, I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best for you too.
Don't forget me, I beg, I remembered you say,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead, yay yeh yeah.

There's this girl that I think I might be in love with, but she's not with me. We've know each other a long time but it was only about a year ago we really became friends. I really liked her best friend, so I started trying to hang out with them, and I know she got a major crush on me. A few months passed, and I had given up on her friend, and was starting to become really good friends with her, and I think she still had a big crush on me. We hung out a bunch, and I realized I really liked her, but I never had the courage to do anything about it. About a month ago I realized she was starting to pull away from me a bit, and I got scared, but still didn't make a move on her. Now yesterday we were just hanging out at the mall, and I had finally worked up the courage to ask her out, but before we got the chance to sit down so I could, we ran into some friends and had some small talk where one of the said we'ed make a "cute couple" and that really got my hopes up. Then they left, and we're walking, and she just drops the bomb that she had asked someone out, and their first date (just two days before) had gone great. I don't think I said anything more than a grunt for at least a half hour, I was just really broken. It was clear she felt really bad too, because she knew how I felt. But then we took my dog for a walk and just talked, and we worked stuff out, I admitted that while I don't know a word for the feeling I have for her, love might be as close as it gets, and that I was a total coward for not having made a move on her sooner. I said I was happy for her, even though I was totally dead inside (didn't say that last bit). This is one of her favorite songs, and I just said a few lyrics under my breath, and she said how well it summed up the situation. I think I might still love her, and I know that keeping a placid relationship will be extremely difficult, and she herself said more than once that I was officially "friendzoned" but... I know it's not really the meaning of the song, but it makes me think of that, and it just has so much meaning to me. So yeah, thanks for reading, if anyone has.

She's heard he's married now, and she has to come to terms with it being over. She has to see him for herself, to finally convince herself that he ain't coming back to her. And she realises at last that she can't go on hanging onto that hope. That she has to make herself move on, but not in bitterness. She wishes him all the best, knowing that what he's settled for is something different to what they had.

This song want to tell us that every relationships has two faces. One is the happiness of being loved and the other side is the pain and suffering caused by the broken relationship. But, whenever it is like that, we must keep in mind that we can stand by our own foot and walk away to find another. The pain from the past will never vanish instead would be a part of our memory. That's all I can say. And I love this song because I can see the girl in the song as me. The song was like my story. You're so great adele. ^^

I think this song touches on the unfortunate aspects of love that our culture often ignores or belittles. A lot of time relationships end without any definite closer for one or both people. There are harsh words, mis-understandings, moving far distances away from each other, or many other reasons.
Like many people, the woman in this story was left still "in love" with her ex. Now she has to live a life filled not with regret or anger, but with these feelings that won't go away. Its not that she really wants to be with this person forever, she understands that he's moved on. But her feelings are still there, and that means she is stuck in this limbo like place wanting to see him again and yet still wanting to wish him the best in his new life.
It really brings about a disappointing fact that many relationships in our culture end without the continuation of a friendship. Two people who were once quite intimate with each other all of a sudden don't speak anymore, and that leaves a lot of confusion and wondering what happened. It can even lead to false assumptions, and a continuation of love from one party to another, because each person doesn't really know what happened.
It makes me want to live in a society where we really talk about these issues more. Where people in relationships are actually 100% honest with each other, even through a break-up, it would require that our culture be ten times more mature, and a lot better at communication, but someday I hope we do progress to that point.

This song is to me is about a woman who was so deeply in love with a man that her heart is torn in two, she wants him to see her and remember with all the hope in her heart, that he will see the love she still has for him, and hope it reminds him how he once loved her, but deep in her soul she knows he's lost to another woman, but loves him so deeply she wishes him no malice and hopes he has found true happiness even though its not with her.
