What he is trying to say is His mom went through hell and back raising him. His other was on drugs and He kept getting in trouble from trouble at school to getting locked up. Also, for his mother it wasn't the easiest thing so he sees her as though she's the most amazing woman on earth for the way she raised him.

Tupac was left on his own. He moved out the house because the thugs and the people on the streets showed him love. He started selling drugs and making money so he could live and take care of his mother. He's trying to set a tone. like, hes trying to explain things he's been through to get to the place he was at in that point in time. Basically he turned nothing into something.

What he's saying here is his mother had a hard life. He's using a metaphor, comparing there problems to a road. But what he is saying is no matter what they went through his mother always came up with a way to make sure her family is okay and well taken care of. He's also trying to set the mood, his mother went through a lot of obstacles to take care of her two kids during a rough time.
