I'd rather fuel a fantasy than deal with this alone
He has a problem. And rather than facing it head-on, he instead hangs back and creates a world of imagination, of his own storyline, and he keeps on returning back to that fake world of his because he'd rather lose himself in a fantasy where everything is solved and he can escape for a while. The thought of dealing with his problem alone scares him so much that he has to make up an alternative realm for him to free his real-life demons.
