Meaning
On your way home from work late one night you pass by the gate of a cemetery. You're surprised to see a man strolling amongst the headstones. Verse 2 tells that he's wearing a top hat, carrying a cane, and he must be dressed like he's going to a party, or "dead man's ball". Of course, you start laughing like a crazed lunatic. You catch his attention so he points to where he wants you to go and asks you to follow. You stoll along with him for "miles and miles" until you finally realize that you, too, are dead and cold. At that point it's YOU who's doing the "Deadman's Stroll". Let's hope you're dressed for the ball! I inherited the 45" (yes, vinyl record) of this song from my parents. They'd like to play it late at night and on Halloween.
