"Let's go back to the rock & see it at 440"
The 'Andromeda Strain' is a space borne pathogen, brought back to the Earth in the novel, film & tv mini-series of the same name. So threatening is the contagion that it is investigated in a high security facility deep underground. The virus is discovered when one of the investigators suggests looking again at a meteor fragment "the rock" under a microscope, on a higher magnification "x440." Put all that together and you have the iconic hook to the lyrics.
