So here's what I've heard about this song: The lyrics are directly pulled from actual random notes sent to a family whose daughter had been kidnapped by a psychopath. The family was not able to pay off the ransoms and the girl was never found. Every verse up until "You don't care a bit" are these notes. "You don't care a bit" is Imogen Heap's take on what the girl was thinking when she realized that no one was coming to save her. It's really eerie and I don't know if this is true but it would really change how people perceived this song.
