Jonathan Coulton was a software developer for a bank before he became a singer/songwriter/nerd icon. This song is more or less a day in the life of JoCo before he was JoCo. I'm not certain how much of the unrequited office romance in the song is true, but it's a common enough occurrence, so it wouldn't surprise me.
