Okay so, I never really fully got the meaning of this song until I saw the music viceo, but basically what it's saying (in my opinion), is that life screws you over sometimes. You can't make promises to people (i.e., buying a house of gold and taking care of your mother when she gets too old to take care of herself), because life twists things around and messes your plans up. The music video shows Tyler and Josh as having only their upper halves and the rest if their body is wondering off around the field. This is implying that they are dead, and they can no longer do all the things they promised because, well, they're dead now. Josh's bottom half is wondering around aimlessly which represents how when things s***w your plans up, you don't really know what to do. You're kind if just left to search for a plan B. This songs got a really deep meaning to it. It's telling you that you can't count on anything really because life's a b*tch and it will s***w you over without hesitation.

Okay so maybe I'm just looking too far into things (I tend to do that a lot), but I feel like this song is about more than just not having any money. To me, this song is about starting from the bottom and making your way to the top. The music video in the beginning shows Calum, Mikey, Luke, and Ashton all having crappy jobs that they hate, but they have to work otherwise they won't have any money. I see this as a metaphor for when they were first starting out and they had so many people telling them they'd never make it. But, they kept on dreaming about that one day when they would hopefully get discovered, just like in the video how they're dreaming about what it would be like if they had tons of money and didn't have to work. Then, at the end, they're all doing the jobs they want and they don't have to worry about money anymore because they worked hard enough to earn the higher paying jobs. Now, 5sos doesn't have to worry about the people who said they couldn't do it, because through hard work and dedication, they've already proven them wrong. Again, I could just be looking for a deeper meaning here, but that's what it means to me.

To me, this song is about accepting yourself even when no one else can accept you. I feel like 5SOS wrote this song to their haters, kind of like a polite "f**k you, I don't care what you think." It's showing that they have come to terms with being an outcast or "loser", as they called it, and that now they're embracing those titles instead of getting upset about them. I remember one time Ashton was talking about his high school years at a concert, and he said that he had no friends until he met Michael, Luke, and Calum. He said that he discovered that it was absolutely okay to be an outcast. That's what I feel like they're saying, that it's alright to not be like everyone else and it's alright to be your own person. There's nothing wrong having your own plans for your own life, because at the end of the day, it's your choice and nobody else's. They're also saying that just because no one else believes in you, it doesn't mean that you're not gonna make it. It doesn't matter what the naysayers think because you can do it on your own as long as you believe you can. You'll be alright, you just have to push through all the negativity first. I love this song so much because it shows 5sos's journey from being a small fan-base band with lots of people telling them they couldn't do it to now being one of the biggest bands in the world. I'm so proud of them for making it this far, and they're only gonna go farther.

To me the song is about loving someone, even though they don't love you back. The lines "so lie to me, just lie to me" show that the person in love doesn't really care whether or not the other person loves them back, they just want them to say it even though they know it's not true. They're brainwashing themselves into believing that the person they want loves them back so that the pain of being in a one-sided relationship doesn't hurt them. They know the truth deep down, but on the surface they'll pretend like they both love each other, instead of just that one particular person being in love. The person in love also knows that what they are doing isn't healthy, but they can't stop. It's like cigarettes or drugs or stuff like that. It's not healthy and it affects you negatively, but it's addicting. This song is so realistic and so on point, because almost everyone has feelings for someone who doesn't return them at least once in their life. 5sos has made a another great album and this is just one of the songs on it that is a true hit.
