A fairy tale from long ago. Many years ago an elderly widow struggled to maintain her small farm. One day a "little man" knocked on her door and when she answered, he said: "My name is Aikendrum and to do your work I come; a bite to eat, a bed of hay you may give but nothing pay". Each and every day during the summer and fall she would awake to find her wood split, her cow milked, her pig fed, her eggs collected and her house spotlessly clean. As the winter approached she felt that the "little man" needed a coat so she sat down, made the coat and placed it in the hay where he would sleep. The next day she arose to find that nothing had been done during the night - the "little man" was gone! Then she remembered what he had said to her on the first day: "My name is Aikendrum and to do your work I come; a bite to eat a bed of hay you may give but nothing pay". The coat was a payment!
