The interpretation that its about Jesus dying on the cross came to my mind quickly as well. What doesn't seem to fit is that Jesus would call his death a "self-righteous suicide". If it really was the sacrifice he had to bring to save all Christianity from death these are not the right words, Now I don't want to offend religious beliefs but I think Jesus was inspired and lived and teached the fact that love and forgiveness are the only things that can save mankind. His death was no salvation, just another crime against one of humanity's greatest men who stood up against injustice. Now comes the part with makeup, and leaving the keys. I think the makeup means the resurrection was a fake and the left keys are referring to his crypt being reopened and the body stolen so another religion could be founded ("here you go create another fable"). A religion which with time got somewhat away from Jesus' teachings and was abused to unite one part of mankind against others, to wage war against non-believers and so on, like many religions. So from Jesus' point of view it would be kind of ironic if he spoke of "self-righteous suicide" and just maybe he means to say "I hope you don't trust in my self-righteous suicide" in the context of this song's lyrics. I know that this could be far-fetched and founded on my personal opinions. But it´s not a test where I have to find some single solution, it's my interpretation.

Well, the left baggage is triumphant over what? Parts of western civilization as representative of tyranny of its big money over the rest of the world? I am sure that Tankian is not awaiting the baggage in the sense of wishing for it to come, it is more like he knows it comes and why. Zetsubou ichi, you are right, some things are better left unsaid (on the internet), but still it is important they are understood.

I think this is about longing for uncompromising love, and I would interpret uncompromising love not as some form of selfishness, but on the contrary as a love that is not diminished by reason, personal needs, obstacles. The sadness comes from feeling disconnected to this love in which the subject of the poem anyway believes. Waves of unknown oceans, harvesting the sea gives me the impression of something that goes deeper than an orgasm, some transcendent unity (i don´t find the right words). Lines of red wine pouring from gashes maybe means that love hurts only because we don´t handle it with enough care. Maybe we are not able to because we misunderstand the idea of love. Well, this is probably not what Mr. Tankian wanted to express, it s just the thoughts the poem caused in me.

They crowned the sun. Maybe animal mass suicide happens when nature intuitively realizes that a species is going to die anyway for example because of pollution, so these animals decide to end the suffering. And these birds crowning the sun (the view that one could get as they fell from the sky) make the impression of giving a sad and frightening offering to the only thing always remaining the same even when mankind destroys nature on the earth. The sun. This is not a logical interpretation, just the thoughts that came to my mind. And we are them, the day birds, the greying herds. Only our suicide is like a rampage, taking everything else with us into perdition. And this is our choice, as stated in the video to the song: mankind is fully responsible for his nature and his choices.
