This song poignantly describes the experience of being trapped in an intimate relationship with someone with narcissistic personality disorder. Her partner plays games with her, letting her "dangle at a cruel angle". His emotional manipulations ensure that her "feet don't touch the floor." And yet, that "one kiss" inspired a "fire of devotion", an addiction to him and his approval, and his seductive essence, that rendered her incapable of fashioning her escape. The reference to already having had a sip and therefore reasoning that she was "drunk enough to deal with it" reflects her deluded thinking that she could keep letting her narcissistic lover back into her life without risking further emotional trauma, much like the "I can just have one drink" mantra of the alcoholic. This is a truly chilling song, one that reminds us all to value ourselves first and foremost, and not to fall into that rabbit hole of seeking your self-esteem from others.
