Return to a land called paraiso,
A place where a dying river ends.
No birds there fly over paraiso,
No space allows them to endure.
The smoke that screens the air,
The grass that's never there
Paraiso is the name of a community in Tondo, Manila, Philippines. It is beside Smokey Mountain (map) which used to be a trash mountain(landfill) at the time the song was written. The area has since been transformed; public housing built and granted to the residents.

"Dying river" is the Navotas River, that runs beside Smokey Mountain. The gases and chemicals in the trash frequently caused fires while resulted in the ever-present smoke in the air before Smokey Mountain was closed down.
