Little known fact, this song was actually commissioned in the 90's to be played at every high school graduation ceremony on a 50 year lease. Very catchy song, but as a year 12 student in the 90's, and a father of 4, I would really like to find the twit that signed the contract and be very rude to them.

It seems that whilst they are desperate for the funk, it is in the position of someone else - most likely Sly and the Family Stone. Note the lyrics talk about wanting the funk and gotta have that funk - they are demanding to come inside so they can turn that mother out looking for it. It's a shame, since Parliament are such a groovy band, but with a mask of funky sadness :(
