Joy is the feeling describing our souls freedom to get what it wants. The opposite to joy is natural anger: the feeling in association with obstacles to souls desire. Natural anger is crucial for survival since we could not survive if we to gave up every time we met with obstacles.
Soul's freedom to get what it wants is not to be confused with the ego's desire to achieve what it seeks (fame and power-over) and the resulting anger when ego meets obstacles!
Schillers poems is a praise for soul and a pleed to not seek power over our brothers and sisters. It was written in a period of strict demand for obedience and hierarchy in Germany preceding the militaristic power and pre-Nazi era in Germany and Austria.
