This song is saying how living your life based on keeping up your appearances is not fulfilling and will make you feel bad about yourself because you can never look as perfect as the media makes you think you 'ought' to be. She only feels comfortable in the dark because he can't see what she looks like (she can hide her flaws). He says she is a tramp because she has no real substance. She's a 'vampire' because she can't be 'in the light' - which means she can't show who she really is. Really, she doesn't want to see who that person is, because she knows it isn't going to be good.

This song is not about zombies. There is no devouring of flesh. This is about a pestilence (synonym: plague) if you take it at face value. But do you really think it's only a detailed illustration of an ugly horror scene? I would venture to say most metal songs have a deeper message and are allegorical. The extended metaphor imo is found when you consider what the 'plague' upon the masses could be? Look at the description of how humanity is left in rotting decay, as ravenous animals, in despair, civilization turned to savagery. What could it be? Corruption? Ignorance? Living by false values and believing false information? It's of course open for interpretation by the loyal listeners and subject to our own opinions. Why do we listen to metal? Because it sums up through lyrics, and is in response to, the rotting, decaying minds and morals of the masses.
