He also says that he wasn't raised 'in the hood'- he grew up in a nice town as a Christian youth but that doesn't mean he hasn't had bad experiences. He fights his pain with his music, and doesn't know where he'd be without it. .

Tyler is trying to say that if the band had it their way, they'd change the tempo every time they changed the time signature. This is not only hard to achieve as a musician, but also hard for the listener. Therefore it wouldn't go down well with the public. .

Tyler is saying that everyone tells the band to stay in the same kind of music, but they just do whatever they want anyway. He says that everyone thinks that music making is a one-way path to success, but it isn't that simple and you can be dropped any minute by the critics and public.
