hod
A hod is made of two boards joined at a right angle, usually like 2 ft by 4 feet, with a hefty stick jutting below. The idea is to stack bricks, or sometimes buckets of mortar, in the angle, then carry the thing on your shoulder steadying it with the stick below. Awkward, obviously, but meant for carrying up and down a ladder.
