For me, this song is about losing someone, whether by break-up or a death and still hanging on to that person as if they are still here. Still listening to words said by the person lost and wanting and living life the way you thought they wanted for you. Knowing you have to let go and need to let go but scared of what the future holds "without" them in your life.
