One of my all time faves. It calmly brings out one's vulnerability and humility, so beautifully. Strangely enough, I've always struggled with the real meaning behind this Trooper song. One interpretation makes me think that a very emotionally weary man is seeking the affection of a "pretty lady". He refers to her face of "clay", would that suggest a heavy application of cosmetic make up layered thick on her facial skin? My second interpretation is a completely different take. In the Catholic faith, and others too, Mother Mary (mother of Jesus), is known throughout history to grant favor and even miracles to those who come her. Again, the term "clay" makes me wonder if perhaps this same desperate man may be praying before a statue of Mother Mary (perhaps made of clay), begging for her intervention and help. I know these interpretations are completely opposite in regards to how we view brothel women and the Mother of Jesus, and in no way am I suggesting anything il hearted. Regardless of this song's true intended meaning, my two interpretations make me see the full circle of human life. We succeed, we fail, we surrender. I THINK?....
