Train – Drive By lyrics

On the other side of a street I knew
Stood a girl that looked like you
I guess that's deja vu
But I thought this can't be true
Cause you moved to west L. A or New York or Santa Fe
Or where ever to get away from me

Oh but that one night
Was more than just right
I didn't leave you cause I was all through
Oh I was overwhelmed and frankly scared as hell
Because I really fell for you

Oh I swear to you
I'll be there for you

This is not a drive by I-I-I-I
Just a shy guy looking for a two ply
Hefty bag to hold my I-I-I-I love
When you move me everything is groovy
They don't like it sue me
The way you do me
Oh I swear to ya
I'll be there for ya
This is not a drive by

On the other side of a downward spiral
My love for you went viral

And I loved you every mile you drove away
But now here you are again
So let's skip the "how you been"
And get down to the "more than friends"
; at last

Oh but that one night
Is still the highlight
I didn't need you until I came to

Oh I was overwhelmed and frankly scared as hell
Because I really fell
for you

Oh I swear to ya
I'll be there for ya
This is not a
drive by
Just a shy guy looking for a 2 ply
Hefty bag to hold my love
When you move me everything is groovy
They don't like it sue me
The way you do me
Oh I swear to ya
I'll be there for ya
This is not a drive by

Please believe that when I leave
There's nothing up my sleeve but love for you
And a little time to get my head
together too

On the other side of a street I knew
Stood a girl that looked like you
I guess that's deja vu
But I thought this can't be true
Cause

Oh I swear to ya
I'll be there for ya
This is not a drive by
Just a shy guy looking for a two ply
Hefty bag to hold my love
When you move me everything is groovy
They don't like it sue me
The way you do me
Oh I swear to ya
I'll be there for ya
This is not a drive by

For this song I believe that it is about a guy who meets a girl that he "hangs out" with one night. He wakes up realizing that maybe he want to actually know this girl and become more than friends with her. However, when he thinks this he gets scared and when he doesn't make a move she ends up moving. She moves back and he recognizes her and remembers back to the night that he met her. He remembers his love for her and tries for her but this time he promises not to just use her but actually be there for her. The theme of this song is to take chances because you do not know how time can change something that you plan to do but do not do.

I believe it is about a man who slept with a girl as a one night stand situation, but started to have feelings for her the next day, which scared him and he didn't know how to handle his feelings and he disappeared. I believe she loved him as well and so when he disappeared she decided to disappear as well because she was sad he didn't love her as she loved him. She might have come back to see friends or family and he sees her again and confesses his feelings for her and that he won't leave her.

The song starts with a man seeing a girl who resembled a girl friend of his, who had run away to new york or somewhere to avoid him.
He and the girl friend had a one night stand, but he left the next day. She misunderstood, thinking he treated their relationship as just s**. The truth was that he was scared because he realised that he had fallen for his friend.
They see each other again. This time, he makes it clear that what they had wasn't just a drive by.

Has a lot of meanings - I dunno where you guys are getting the whole "it's about his girlfriend" gig. Watch the music video - got nothing to do with his girlfriend.
I think it's about a boy who's having some troubles with his girlfriend. The song, I think, is set during summer, and perhaps the boy has to go to a family reunion or something, or simply goes on vacation as an escapade from his stressful relationship with his girlfriend, who clearly doesn't want to be with him. During vacation, I think he finds a girl who looks a lot like his girlfriend, and reminds her of him. He sleeps with her, probably after getting to know her, and leaves - confused as hell. The girl, who knows him by now, probably thinks she's a replacement for his girlfriend. But the guy comes back, asking for forgiveness.
So overall, I think the song is about the troubles in a relationship, and really how love can hurt people. The boy wa obviously hurt that his gifriend didn't want to be with him. The girl was obviously hurt that she was a replacement.
The line dejavu suggests that the boy fears that she would hurt him just like his girlfriend did, because she looks so similar. A lot of people had different views of this, so I just wanted to give my input.
So yeah. That's my meaning of the song. Probably a load of bs - but you know, whatever. :)

I honestly at first thought that it was about a girl who left after a one night stand and the guy thought it was fantastic "oh, the way you do me" and he wishes to continue further to which she really doesn't want anything to do with him "you moved to west la, new-york of santa fe, or wherever to get away from me. " and with her gone, he realises just how much he cares.
