Terence Trent D'arby – Sweetness lyrics

Sing your magic spell
Into my ears
Place a blissful sigh
Into my tears

Cradle my forgiveness
Judging that I'm half a man
If it were not for your sweetness
I would not know who I am

Take your magic broom
And sweep my heart
Rescue Cupid's arrow
From broken hearts

Reaching for completeness
Digging deep into the sand
If it were not for your sweetness
I would not know who I am

I find a shelter in your wings
I find my self-remembering
That I'm in a dream

Blow your moonlit trumpet
And sound my tone
Sing to me your silence
And call me home

I'm not full of answers
Though I pretend that I am
If it were not for your sweetness
I would not know who I am

The meaning for me to this song has always been the way my daughter aja has made me feel throughout her growing-up years. How she made me feel & understand the beauty of unconditional love for someone; in this case ones child. The lyric "if it were not for your sweetness, i would not know who i am" meant to me her possessing an innocent understanding of my many moods, ups & downs & overall mothering whether she agreed or not and still look at me with love & understanding in her eyes for the sacrifices I had to make, and me realizing why god allowed me to be her mother. I fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it and wrote the lyrics in a birthday card for my daughter that year as I knew she would understand & appreciate the words herslef.
