Shinedown – Bully lyrics
It's 8 am, this Hell I'm in
Seems I've crossed the line again
For being nothing more than who I am

So break my bones and throw your stones
We all know that life ain't fair
But there is more of us, we're everywhere

We don't have to take this, back against the wall
We don't have to take this, we can end it all

All you'll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope, so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don't hurt
Can you hear me?
No one's gonna cry on the very day you die
You're a bully

Think it through, you can't undo
Whenever I see black and blue
I feel the past, I share the bruise
With everyone who's come and gone
My head is clear, my voice is strong, now I'm right here to right the wrong

We don't have to take this, back against the wall
We don't have to take this, we can end it all

All you'll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope, so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don't hurt
Can you hear me?
No one's gonna cry on the very day you die
You're a bully

(Solo)

It's 8 am, the Hell I'm in!
Your voice is strong, now right the wrong!

All you'll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope, so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don't hurt
Can you hear me?
No one's gonna cry on the very day you die
You're a bully

All you'll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope, so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don't hurt
Can you hear me?
No one's gonna cry on the very day you die
You're a bully

We don't have to take this, back against the wall
We don't have to take this, we can end it all (x4)

I was bullied when I was younger. I stood up to them and I gained the power. You need to stand up to them and show them that you are stronger than they give you credit for. I see so many things on the news from children getting plastic surgery because they are being bullied constantly and that is just not right. If you see someone being bullied help them out and stand up to that bully for them. Sometimes being bullied makes the victim end there life because nobody stood up for them and that is very wrong.

Verble, mental, emotional and physical abuse against any living creature, with the outcome of fear, pain, insecurity, heart break, confusion and even suicide. When ever I hear this song it reminds me of my mother when she use to abuse me! I love her still and have been through a lot of confusion and am still trying to convince myself to counseling as to why she did those things to me. I'm still very hesitant confronting her about it. If she tries anything I think I might go on a beating spree. Its so weird now that I'm 21 shes so nice to me. Its so creepy.

I was getting bullied at school and I stood up to him after he put me in a choke hold and I passed out so my friends got him of me and I told him how it was and now he leaves me alone and I told all the kids at school that they need to stand up for themselves. I think that when you stand up for them they at least leave you alone for awhile and I told all my friends that they need to stand up for them selves and they will be fine for awhile and that they should not bully other people them selves because they were picked on to. Now everybody stands up for themselves and I think that it is so awesome and they all think it is to. Now basically nobody gets picked on anymore because of me.

I was bullied @ school and abused by my mother. My friend has it worse. His father beats him every day. The bully at school beats us both. One day, I was running with him to practice and the bully grabbed him by the neck. I grabbed the bully and threw him on the ground and pounded him in the face. His nose was bleeding and he had a black eye. My friend later told me he was so grateful. Do what I do. Stand up for yourself. You can end all the bullying.

You should be ashamed to be a bully, you shouldn't feel ashamed to be the victim- for whatever reason you're trying to explain their inexcusable behaviour. You're the one with a bright future; not them, because you're not afraid to be yourself & bring something unique to the table (which is how we achieve a evolving world). Bullies are the weaklings hiding behind their artificial and temporary status; their power rein is normally short lived to their time in high school, and when you're older you'll realise they are the one's without a life after learning the hard way (no job no friends etc.) that they can't treat people as if they were beneath them. I just wish someone had told me this all earlier.

Two men are sitting at a bar, drunk man says to the sober man "hey come over here, want your fortune told? " the other man says "sure" so he takes a seat next to him. The drunk man pulls out a deck of playing cards. The getting-there man asks "why are they playing cards? " the drunk man says "its nothing, whats your name? " the finally-drunk man says "jason and yours? " "names jeff" jeff pulls out 4 cards and places them on the table. 2 jacks 1 king and an ace.
Jason looks at jeff confused as jeff says "oh... Well this isnt good at all... " jason is hesitant but asks "w-what? " jeff says "our names represent the 2 jacks and the king represents an action of sorts as the ace of spades is clearly a symbol for a bat of some kind... " he then gives jason a look he will never forget. Jeff says "well it's simple... We must kill the batman. "

My exhusband used to back me up against walls to put his hands around my throat. Given the opportunity to use "his words" to apologize all he only ever stopped to antagonize. An actually apology meant that I was hours away from another drunken rage of being held down and made to bleed. Now removed from that situation shinedown gives voice to the healed bruises and the unfaded internal scars that remain. The perfect ring tone for he that is nothing more than the consumate "bully. "

This song, in a sense, talks about the harsh impact a bully has on a person. Some of the lyrics are a little too much, obviously, but the song is trying to convey the feelings a bully victim might feel. I feel the song not only speaks to the victim but to the bully. Making them realize the thoughts and perhaps actions taken because of their abuse. Telling them bullying is serious and should be taken seriously. That you don't want to be the cause or on the other end of these feelings.

I get bullied all the time. Because I'm bi, because I like different music to them, because I'm emo. Now I get bullied even worse because the previous bullying made me suicidal. I tried once and no one found out. I cut and someone found out and spread it around the school. I think all of them hate me and I really have like 4 friends. People are scared of me because of the clothes I wear, they call me weird because of the music and fandoms I am into. I think I'm really fat so I don't eat much. They think I'm weird and they should stay away from me like I am some kind of contagious disease. And I'm getting seriously annoyed with it now. Seriously, sometimes I don't see the point in talking, or trying, or breathing. I'm just done. So that's it I guess. Stay beautiful, keep it ugly. Keep running and never let them take you alive. Bye.

I'm being bullied at school by someone who use to be my bestest friend in the whole world. I received an email from her email account and now she's accusing me of sending it to myself and impersonating her. She's denying everything and spreading rumors about me. The teachers don't believe me and are forcing me to shut down my facebook account. Now she's acting like nothing ever happened. She told lies to my parents saying I was suicidal but she's suicidal not me. My parents keep a close eye on me all the time. No one believes me and cry my self to sleep every night. But I have had enough. I miss being happy. This song describes how I feel.

This song is an anthem for all those who have been picked on abused beaten and neglected and is meant to show that even though you have your problems with the person(s) who are being a "bully" many others are going through the same exact thing and by banding together and standing up for whats just then we together can eradicate the bully syndrome but this song is also a message to all "bullys" saying that they have the power to stop this and stop others with as litte as only their voice this is a strong emotional song that should be heard by everyone and really listen to the lyrics ~djrav3n~.

Many people get bullied in some shape or form. Verbal is a form I've been exposed to. Not severely, but the people who say it are being malicious so it isn't harmful either. Break my bones and throw your stones, reminds me of the phrase, sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me. (true, because the words don't hurt me unless I let them, not much of a comfort, but something)
it's 8 am, the hell I'm in! Is signifying to me that either he didn't get much sleep because of his being bullied or it's the start of a new day of hell. Make another joke while they hang another rope: bullies are not remorseful, they will make fun of you if you try to kill yourself because in their eyes you are pathetic. That is what I'm getting from that sentence.
There is more of us, we're everywhere: the amount of victims aren't going down, that is what I'm translating form this. It could be true, with the things we have now, cell phones, internet, there are now cyber bullies. You could be getting tormented by a complete stranger and you would never know.
I agree with the rest of you. If you bully that is what people will remember about you and not like you for it.
The phrase whenever I see black and blue, I feel the past, I share the bruise. Etc (too long to type it all) the writer of this song has experienced being bullied, I think. Or they have been a bully and are now trying to repent of their crime, but that is a less likely possiblity then the first. They are remembering their own experience while they try to help others get through their own. That is all I can bring myself to translate. I love this song. The meaning is totally piercing and I just love the music. It's addicting to listen to.

From experience, the line "no one's gonna cry on the very day you die" is spot on. A bully from my hs who ruined my 3 years at that school, was killed last year. I didn't make me happy, but I didn't cry about it. In fact, since the thought of seeing that punk in my old neighborhood always worked me up, it's a relief. I am 25, that hell started when I was 14, it changes you. I can't stop listening to this song.

Some people respond to words. You can reason and have discourse with those that choose that path. There are those that will not hear nor listen to your words though. In those cases you must speak in terms that person understands. The terms I speak of are violence. Violence is, in some ways, a form of communication and although you don't have to be fluent in all its subtleties everyone should know enough to get by in this world. Make no doubt, those that choose peace will always be at the whim of those who choose violence.

Bully is very powerful. Every word is true. Shinedown is amazing nobody could do better. I think they really showed what bullying truly is and the bully is really a faded memmory and our voice is more powerful tjen anything a bully can do. So be strong don't be the lonely one hanging by the rope. Bullies are people with no life who torture the ones who let it get to them be strong.

I'd have to say what this song means to me is that the obvious focus group is young teenage boys. That being said this is just a marketing ploy to further spotlight the ongoing media coverage of violence in schools. Sometimes we find inspiration in the wrong place and the fact that the death of the bully is implied in the song it's easy to understand why these so called victims go on suicidal shooting rampages to get their voices heard. What ever happened to we can work it out?

My meaning to bully is this:
bullying is when a inscure person feels the need to make somebody seem worse then the bully is. To cover up their flaws they point out someone elses and lead them to horrid things. Bullying is not just maybe a mean word here and there. Bullying is a constant spray of mean words everyday making a person hate their selfs, want to kill there selfs, and want to stoop to self harm. That is my meaning as to what it means to bully!

This song speaks volumes for both sides of the daily conflict that occurs between the victims of bullies and the possible reality that eventually a bully may confront. Regardless of what emotional reason motivates a child to become a bully. They continue to bully because of those who laugh, joke and support the neandertholic behavior the bully demonstrates. A truly civilized society needs to recognize the behavior patterns that undermine its further development. A bullied victim will take on the traits they have been exposed to seeing how the bully is accepted. The follower of a bully is as cowardly as the bully itself. Weak of heart and gripped with fear the bully will turn on them. What they fail to see is the observing crowd vastly outnumbers the typical bully's measly followers. If enough supporters side with the victim and disagree with his childish behavior the bully will cease to be comical having lost his source of material. A bully needs the crowds' acceptance or his twisted since of humor has no audience.

I don't believe the song's message is to cause physical harm. Sometimes bullying is done by one person. Sometimes a whole group can get involved. Doesn't matter what the bully goes through inside. Chances are his dad beats him when he's at home or something. But the point is to watch and listen. Pay attention to your kids and be there for them. No more teachers acting like their job is so hard they can't pay attention. Administration at schools, police, and government officials need to hear the message. Stop violence at home, stop bullying in schools and you'll stop the violence there at the same time. Stop punishing people that stick up for themselves and letting the weazels that pushed them over the edge get away.

I wonder. . Has anyone every thought to draw the attention of a bully onto themselves, knowing they could take it, so as to give relief to the ones who can't? How many people would sacrifice themselves for that?
A bully is a person who takes out their own feelings of insecurity on those who also have insecurity about themselves. They rip a person apart, sometimes on the outside but usually on the inside.

The first verse, to me, is about thiskid's life. It's a living hell because he can't away from all of the jeering. The bridge and chorus are about how this kid is dealing with bullying. He won't take it anymore and he won't let it break him. The second verse is about how they see others being bullied and they feel their pain. This song is basically calling out bullies and saying what they do affects people more than they think. No one should be bullied for being different because everyone is going to be different than you.

The intent is not to "hang" the bully but to let him/her know that they are hanging them selves with everyone the bully and hurt. Bulling is as bad now as it was 50 years ago when I was a young child. I can not and will not believe that if some one get bullied that makes them a bully because I was bullied and have never and will never bully!

To me, this song represents my past. It's a very sensitive subject. Back when I was younger and weak I was bullied everyday to the point of insanity. It still bothers me even today. It corrupted my mind into the monstrosity it is now, but now that I've "changed" people don't mess with me anymore mainly out of fear haha. I think this song sends out a really strong message and I hope no one else suffers like I did.

I know exactly what it feels like. Only there weren't more of me than the bullies in my life. Not until after I became an adult. This song is empowering to all us weird kids who get picked on. And it's true. Some day we all move on and do better things and we don't really remember those bullies.

This song after I had first listened to it gave me courage to stand up to my bully that has tormented me since the 2nd grade. I am a senior now. She would always shove me in lockers and follow me home with her gang and kick the crap out of me. I never had any friends because they were all afraid to befriend me because of them. I love shinedown and would just like to say thank you for writing this song. It is one we can all relate to and everyone who is bullied should know they are not alone and they just need to stand up for themselfs and not take it just like the lyrics say "we don't have to take this, back against the wall.
We don't have to take this, we can end it all".

I'm sorry, but is the "anti-bully bandwagon" such a horrible thing to be "jumping on"? Shinedown is already a popular band. Whatever new song they put out is going to make it on the radio, sure it helps that its catchy. Its my say that this is a very strong song, standing up for all of those that have been bullied. "we don't have to take this, back against the wall. We don't have to take this, we can end it all" is saying "we" don't have to stand alone, and by standing together "we" can end being bullied. Its also a messages to those who bully, no one is going to miss you in the end if you're a hateful person. Usually bullies have their own bullies elsewhere. They don't have to take it either. They're not alone.

It sounds like its an anthem for the ones who are bullied and then go and do something real about it. Like go and gundown the bully. Not that I'm complaining I was bullied a long time and recently found out that one of the bullies from my old school days and his other bullying friend had gotten shot in a drug deal gone wrong and his acomplise would be paralyzed for life. Very satisfying feeling.

I too, have also been a victim of bullying and these lyrics are just. Amazing. I can't wait to chant "we don't have to take this, back against the wall, we don't have to take this we can end it all" when I see shinedown in concert in february, because I really will be screaming my heart out to everyone who's bullied me in the past. Karma will hit those bullies hard eventually. To those who have or are being bullied, you are not alone. "but there's more of us, we're everywhere" :) xx.

This song is amazing. It's kind of like my life. "make another joke as they hang another rope, so lonely" is really true. I have known someone that has ended their life because of a bully. It's horrible what people do to other people. I am a victim of bullying too. From some people in my school and also my own twin sister. She spreads rumors about me and some people tell me about how she does. She's my twin and yet she does this to me. Good song though, I have listened to it for about 3 hours straight and I might even sing this for my talent show. Even if it is a guy song and I'm a girl, it doesn't matter.

When I was in elementary I admit I was a bully that was usually directed at one specific person. After over 20 years I found her online and apologized for how I was back then and that I have thought a lot about her hoping one day I could apologize. She just said. We were just kids its no big problem. I thought it was nice that the person I bullied was so nice and reassuring towards me. I know things are extremely different than when I went to school. This is a good song but there is as line I thought went a little to far. The lyrics "no one's gonna dies on the very day you die. You're a bully" many people that were once bullies learn from their mistakes. I know there will be many people crying on the day I die.

Ever since 4th grade I've been bullied. It started out just little remarks and shoves. Now I'm in 9th grade. It's much worse. I've broken bones, been drugged, been offered guns and nooses, been cyber bullied, physically bullied, emotionally etc. Teachers see it happen and don't bother to stop it. I started becoming depressed and suicidal in 5th grade and I still am. People thought I was just seeking attention when I said I wanted to die the first time. I think if anyone especially someone who's 10 years old says they want to die they aren't lieing. Music has always been my escape especially this song and rise against's make it stop. The lyrics give me hope and something to look forward to once school is completely done. I'm not giving up. I hope all you don't either.
