My Chemical Romance – Helena lyrics
Long ago
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are so far from you

Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives of everyone you know
And what's the worst you take
(worst you take)
From every heart you break (heart you break)
And like the blade you stain (blade you stain)
Well I've been holding on tonight

[Chorus:]
What's the worst thing I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Came a time
When every star fall brought to you tears again

We are the very hurt you sold
And what's the worst you take (worst you take)
From every heart you break (heart you break)
And like the blade you stain (blade you stain)
Well I've been holding on tonight

[Chorus:]
What's the worst thing I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
Well if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long not goodnight

Can you hear me?
Are you near me
?
Can we pretend to leave and then
We'll meet again
When both our cars collide
?

[Chorus:]
What's the worst thing I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
Well if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long not goodnight

The lyrics describe lead singer Gerard Way's feelings for his late grandmother, Elena Lee Rush (friends called her 'Helen', and because of this, Way always thought of her as "Helena"). The single has become a moderately-selling hit, both in the you. S. And internationally. Way said in an interview with Channel [V] the band got influences for Helena from the song "Aces High" by Iron Maiden and tracks by The Ventures. This song is also My Chemical Romance's seventh overall single. It is highly considered to be their signature song, as Gerard Way not only described it as representing the band's image and sound (at that point in time) it is usually used to end shows.

This song is about gerard and mikey way's grandmother who died during the making of the band's second cd "three cheers for sweet revenge". Gerard and mikey were both very attached to their grandmother. Despite Gerard and Mikey's Grandmother's name is Elena, the song dedicated to her is called "Helena". This is because her friends called her Helen, so the two names together (Helen+ Elena) form the title of the song. Also whilst filming the video for "Helena" Gerard had to leave the room after watching Tracy (the woman acting as Gerard and Mikey's grandmother) dancing because it was to emotional. Mikey cried the first time he heard the song.

The lyrics in this song describe Gerard Way's feelings for his late Grandmother, Elena Lee Rush, (friends called her 'Helen' and because of this, Gerard always thought of her as 'Helena'). Gerard actually got the influence for this song by the song 'Aces High' by Iron Maiden.
This song is about Gerard's Grandmother, Elena, dying. It's dedicated to her, as is the cd. She is mainly the part "Can you hear me? Are you near me?" is for. But this song also starts to concept of the cd. A man and a woman (Helena) die in a car crash, 'When both our cars collide', except the woman doesn't die, the man only thinks she has. The man is sent to Hell. This song is a mourning for Helena's "Death" by the man. He is wishing he could see her again and is giving his last goodbye, 'So long and goodnight.

This song was based on gerard and mikey's grandmother, elena lee rush better known as helena, she and gerards grandfather basically brought my chemical romance to their feet she got them their first touring van, which was used more in the 2002 days I brought you my bullets you brought me your love, when matt was still in the band, and she encouraged gerard to persue the band instead of sitting around wondering what hes doing with his life aftewr witnessing the 9/11 attacks.

This song is so sad, but romantic I'm almost cry to listening cause it is so sad when they said can you hear me? Are you near me? Can we pretend to leave and then. We'll meet again, when both our cars collide? It feels like when I quit or fired from my fave football team, then I have to say goodbye 2 them and we'll someday meet again. Sad song but rocksss.

This song is about Gerard's dead grandmother. Her name was Elena but her friends called her Helen, so he thought of her as Helena. She was also a dancer which is why in the music video the girl in the coffin comes up to dance. And also why he says "Are you near me? Can you hear me?" It was also said that when they started the music video filming it was too much for Gerard and he got really emotional.
Newayz, I just love this song.

This song was composed in honor of Gerard and Mikey's late grandmother, Elena Lee Rush or sometimes called as Helena. The Way brothers were extremely close to her. She taught them a lot of things which eventually encouraged them to pursue the band. She encouraged Gerard to carry on with his life after the 9/11 attack.

The song is dedicated to elena lee rush. Mikey and gee's grandmother. Her name was elena but gee always thought of her as helena. Their grandmother taught gee everything. She even bought the band their first van (that they vandalized with the name and other stuff). She taught gerard how to paint and she ment so much to both of them. So long here on earth, but goodnight because i'll see you again.

I know this song is dedicated to their grandmother, but it has a very personal meaning to me as well. I have never sat through this video without tears running down my face when she dances. She dances one last time, and nobody can see her, one final goodbye to everyone as she comforts them. She was too young. Too full of life to be taken from us. I see my cousin brenda in the casket, she was 19 when she died. I wonder if she danced around all of us before laying down to rest.
