I think that he is talking about a loved one. He just wants for it to be true; needs for it to be true. But true death has befallen his dreams and he can only look back. People don't know what they have until it is too late. He will never forget; for the love he had was under appreciated. Now he only wants for it to be true. But it never can be.

This reminds me of the true levity of life. Nothing ever stays the same. Life isn't always a beautiful thing. Home isn't always in one place. And some people in our lives aren't exactly who they may lead you to think. And finally, you can't remain the same person throughout your entire life. Things are always changing. People always change, places always change. Some days are absolute blessings, others are deep deadly cuts. One may have loved their life at one point as well as abhorred it in another. But I guess the thing that keeps us all going is the ability to remember. To remember the times we were happiest, the times we were in deepest despair, and use those to formulate insight to govern the course our lives to make it most meaningful to us.

It is about drugs, read harder into it.
The satisfaction drugs (Mdma, meth, cocaine, etc) give you seems like it is much better than anything you have experienced in your life before, though when that euphoria leaves you, you realize ultimately that it was fake, and the real "euphoria" is in the memories of how your life was before you fucked yourself up on drugs.
When you do a 3 day binge on cocaine, during that binge "I (You) receive all I (you) ever dream for, " but the harsh truth about abusing s*t like that is in reality "In return all is taken away".
I am too lazy to go on, but it should become obvious if you continue to read into it.

Being this is a song from someone's personal experience in the group, and knowing their background, I believe it was to those they held dear where they lived, their friends in high school, at home, and everyone in troy in general. It talks about them getting the record deal and people they cared about being upset they would be gone for long periods of time touring and being rockstars. Also how they knew people would be upset but becoming mmi was what they truly wanted so they had to go along with their wishes. "how could i ever forget a place like this? " is a message to those people that knew the group members on a personal level saying troy will always be their home. "beautiful state" means ohio in a whole because that is their home and that won't ever change. Again this is just my interpretation of the song, so I'm open to other ideas. Mmi ftw.
