Greg Laswell – This Woman's Work lyrics
Pray God
You can cope
I stand outside this woman's work
This woman's world
Ooh
It's hard on the man
Now his part is over
Now starts the craft of the father

I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left

I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things I should've said that I never said
All the things we should've done that we never did
All the things I should've given but I didn't

Oh
My darling make it go
Make it go away

Give me these moments back
Give them back to me
Give me that little kiss
Give me your hand

I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left

I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
Ooh
Of all the things we should've said that were never said
All the things we should've done that we never did
All the things that you needed from me
All the things that you wanted for me
All the things that I should've given but I didn't

Oh
Darling make it go
Make it go away now
Oh

I think its about a man who is in love with a woman how is really sick and he knows she might not make it. He sees how strong she is and thinks that she "has a little life in her yet" but hes still praying to god. Also the part where he says that he should be crying but he just can't let it show is like when you have to be strong or someone elses sake.

I told my mom I wanted to play this song with at my wedding with my dad, she cried because she said it was really sad. I always imagined a daughter and father relationship and he doesn't want to let her go, and he wants the time they had when she was small back. I see the daughter going through a hard time, sort of a depression and the dad is trying to be strong for her. The dad doesn't want to see that his child, his baby girl is in pain. The dad is confronting the daughter, saying that she can pull through this darkness, and that they can do it together. It is hard letting go to the familiar, and of course a child. Giving them away is very hard on the parents, because the child is now grown up. Things are changing, and time is going and not stopping for anything.

The song was written for the movie "she's having a baby" it was about being forced to confront an unexpected and frightening crisis during the event of childbirth. When kevin bacon finds out the life of his baby and wife are in danger. The song plays and a montage of sequences flash before him of when he was happy with his wife. So the song was written specifically for this movie. Beautiful song!
