Florence + The Machine – Heavy In Your Arms lyrics
I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown.

I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms

And is it worth the wait
All this killing time?
Are you strong enough to stand
Protecting both your heart and mine?

Who is the betrayer?
Who's the killer in the crowd?
The one who creeps in corridors
And doesn't make a sound

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
So heavy in your arms

This will be my last confession
I love you never felt like any blessing
(Ohhhh)
Whispering like it's a secret
Only to condemn the one who hears it
With a heavy heart

Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms
(I'm so) Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms
(I'm so) Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms
(I'm so) Heavy heavy I'm so heavy in your arms

I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown

I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he had me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground

I'm so heavy, heavy in your arms.

Heavy, I'm so heavy in your arms.

I think it means that she has had a very depressing past. She has a lot to carry on her shoulders, and the relationship that she was in, she felt as if she was just a heavy burden.
Him having to deal with how she is (acts) due to those past events. Some that she's not able to change, and those that she can't change, upsets him a lot. And she sees this, yet is unable to do anything about it.
Like, she's the weight holding him down, from going forth and advancing to what he wishes to be/do.

I think she means that she is hard to love because of things maybe in the past that have made her scared to love anyone. And that is a heavy burden on someone who does love her, but she held on tight to him because she loved him back, but was scared to truly show him how much she loved him because of her past. So he eventually was tired of not getting anywhere with her and he couldn't wait for her any longer to over come her fears so he left her, therefore he "took [her] to the river and slowly let [her] drown". She really, really loved him and her love had "concrete feet" so she sank, and the "iron ball" was wrapped around her once lover so he sank with her, or more like she pulled him under and made him sink. But it wasn't her fault, she just loved too deeply. And then in the next verses, she has recovered and is waiting for "the one", her true love, and waiting forever. When she finally finds him, he's "strong enough to stand, protecting both [his] heart and [hers]". Then she think's he's too good to be true so she wonders what is his secret or flaw ("who is the betrayer, who's the killer in the crowd"), but she can't find anything wrong with him and so they fall in love with each other but she still is scared and what happened last time starts to happen again but this time as they are "drowning" she whispers "i love you. " ("this will be my last confession, i love you never felt like any blessing") and suddenly, they aren't "drowning" anymore. He is carrying her and he will never let her go, no matter how heavy.

I can relate to this song right now. Fell for a guy who knew my past situation (ex, kids, starting over) It was very passionate and heavy. My ex got in between the 2 of us and that was too much for him. He ended it and I tried to cling to what was left until it was all gone. He dropped me into the river and slowly let me drown until I hit the bottom. It was a revelation for me, knowing that I was a lot to hold onto and that its ok for another to say it's to much and to let go

This song is about how someone feels they are unaccepted by Jesus christ because they have felt they have done wrong; therefore making them heavy. The lines:.
"i was a heavy heart to carry.
But he never let me down.
When he had me in his arms.
My feet never touched the ground".
These words prove that the help of god can create anything is possible even if you don't believe you are worthy.
