Enslaved – The Watcher lyrics
Darkness...
Fear...
Life...
Cold...

Left alone with no will
Walking in footsteps of the fallen
Blinded by lack of reason
Indulging the tales of doom

... Farewell,
May the darkness bind them
No one will
Remember the pain when we are...

Desolate...
Unconscious...
Lost...

Where lays the ones I've slain?
Did I become any wiser?
Will their anger hunt me down?
Did I sacrifice in vain?

... Farewell,
Hear the sound of solitude
No one will
Walk the bridge, to darkness overcome

Settlement...
Trust...
Relief...
Dawn...

Guide me, watcher in the skies
Transform the forces of the dead
In my dreams I'll hunt them down
I now know the truth

One area of this song speaks to me in so many ways, the part that says "where lays the one's i have slain? Did i become any wiser? Will the anger hunt me down? Did i sacrifice in vain? " as an iraq/ afghanistan vet, these were the type of questions I asked myself when I returned. I also thought of my behavior each time I got ready to go over and my behavior when I returned. Will thier, the memories, my, inner feelings, anger, at the parts of this conflict I didn't understand, hunt me down. Did any of this make me smarter, or better? And what of me that I left of me in those places, did I sacrifice a part of me in vain? This is truely a warrior's song, but at the time when the battle is over and the warrior finds himself alone. I almost feel that the battle in the song was lost, for it has a touch of dispair to it, however every battle has a touch of dispair to it, for in the end, the warrior ponders to himself, " could there have been another way? "
