Depeche Mode – Waiting For The Night lyrics
I'm waiting for the night to fall
I know that it will save us all
When everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality

I'm waiting for the night to fall
When everything is bearable
And there in the still
All that you feel is tranquillity

There is a star in the sky
Guiding my way with its light
And in the glow of the moon
Know my deliverance will come soon

I'm waiting for the night to fall
I know that it will save us all
When everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality

I'm waiting for the night to fall
When everything is bearable
And there in the still
All that you feel is tranquillity

There is a sound in the calm
Someone is coming to harm
I press my hands to my ears
It's easier here just to forget fear

And when I squinted
The world seemed rose-tinted
And angels appeared to descend
To my surprise
With half-closed eyes
Things looked even better
Than when they were open

Been waiting for the night to fall
I knew that it would save us all
Now everything's dark
Keeps us from the stark reality

Been waiting for the night to fall
Now everything is bearable
And here in the still
All that you feel is tranquility

To me, it is a lullaby for adults. When you are trying to fall asleep and start thinking about all the problems, concerns, hurt etc.
There is a sound in the calm (the voice in your head keeping you from sleeping, thinking on all the things that you are concerned about.
Someone is coming to harm (the anxiety, thoughts disturbing your peace).
I press my hands to my ears(try not to listen to it).
It's easier here just to forget fear (let go of those thoughts of fear).
And when I squinted (short sighted people squint, in order to see better.
The world seemed rose-tinted(if you see better, you will see all the positives, and be peaceful.
And angels appeared to descend (peace invading your soul).
    To my surprise.
With half-closed eyes(if you block the negative and see the positive, closing your eyes to what is negative).
    Things looked even better.
Sleep, rest, trust your guidance (there is a star in the sky) and you will be ready for the next day. Beautiful!

A lullabye for adults. Brilliant. "there is a sound in the calm" = the voice in your head, concerns, worries, anxiety, hurt etc, that try to steal the calm from you. So. "i press my hands to my ears" = trying not to listen to that bs in our heads that leads us to a bad feeling
"and when i squinted " (like people that are short sighted do, trying to see something in front of them) "the world seem rose tinted"= peaceful, beautiful, tranquil. "with half closed eyes" = close your eyes to the negative things. Leave that part out. Or when you can see better, 'squint" is a metaphor. Things look better, the night to fall. The end of the day, or confusion, to me. This is the most beautiful lullabye ever!
