Crystal Bowersox – Farmer's Daughter lyrics
Halfway to crazy, not far from sane
Fuckin' sick and tired of all your games
All I ever wanted was you to take care of me

Honor thy mother and father too
But I know there ain't no way in hell that God mentioned you
All I ever wanted was you to care for me

Now I'm stuck in this hotel room, your grandson and me
Tomorrow we're gonna find out our destiny
All I ever wanted was you to be there for me
All I ever needed was you to be here for me

This time is the last time you're gonna see us around
This was your last chance to prove you wouldn't let me down
So go on, get going and get away from here
All alone is how you're gonna spend the rest of your years
No farmer's daughter anymore, mommy dear.

Remember back in high school, my brothers and me
Willie put his head through the door to find clarity
You'd come home with bourbon breath, Jack in the air
And when you broke my bones I told the school I fell down the stairs
All I ever wanted was for you to be there for me
All I ever needed was for you to be here for me

This time is the last time you're gonna see us around
This was your last chance to prove you wouldn't let me down
So go on home, get going and get away from here
All alone is how you're gonna spend the rest of your years

No farmer's daughter anymore
I ain't no farmer's daughter anymore
No farmer's daughter anymore, mommy dear

I love the song, it has alot of hurt and pain in it. The only thing I do not like about the song is the one cuss word at the beginning. I'm sure she could've come up with another more decent word. She is A very talented singer but it's really ashamed about that word. Wouldn't want my kids or grandkids to hear it and that's ashame because it's A beautiful song and A beautiful voice doing it. Can't believe the record label let the song go like that. You can do better crystal. Keep it up but please keep them clean for the younger generation. You have A child to that will hear this in your song.

Well, sad to say, this song reminds me of the life my sibs and I had with our stepfather: the grandson - her child - is the stepfathers - the mother whom she is singing to did not protect her from her new husband. The stepfather, also the father of her child, beat the and terrorized the children, and the willy, unable to defend his sister acted out by hurting himself. I cry everytime I hear this song and hope that it is not, for crystal, what I think it is.

First of all. Who is anyone to judge crystal for her choice of words in a song about the life she had to deal with? Had she said "very sick and tired of all your games" or any other word, would the song really be the same? She is angry and when people are angry they say and do things that express their anger. For someone who has such an uplifting spirit and voice, a little anger does some good. Everyone stop judging! Take the time to understand instead of judge. Peace to all.

I believe crystal and her brothers were abused terribly and that is so sad but I also believe that crystal is still in A lot of pain for this and is also carrying A lot of hate that she has not dealt with. I think she is trying though and it may take many years to get through it all. I also wish her the strength to forgive so that she may have peace in her heart. Its so much easier to love than carry all her hate and pain around. I wish her much success in her life on all the many roads will continue to go down. May your life one day be as clear as your name represents and you will truly shine rac from nc.

I agree that the F word is definitely needed in this song I mean she has a lot of anger and hurt that you can sense in the lyrics so she is just using that to express how mad she is. I also think that her son is going to hear it he is little he doesn't understand what has happened to his mom but when he is older he will learn what happened and he will be understanding.

I really love this song and I have to agree with "Mokieder" about the "F" bomb at the begining of the song. When you have that much anger to vent, it is nessacerry to use words like that in your lyrics. I feel that people need to quit getting so butt hurt about things that others say. This is the 21st century and old school rules do not apply anymore.
Anyway, this song hits home to me because I have an alchoholic mother that was abusive and neglectful. My brother has a few mental issues because of her, but I feel luck to have learned from her mistakes and not follow in her footsteps. I love her, but I do not like my mother or her actions, nor do I wish to ever see her again.
