Christopher Cross – Think Of Laura lyrics
Every once in a while I'd see her smile
And she'd turn my days around
A girl with those eyes
Could stare through the lies
And see what my heart was saying

Think of Laura but laugh don't cry
I know she'd want it that way
When you think of Laura but laugh don't cry
I know she'd want it that way

A friend of a friend
A friend to the end
That's the kind of girl she was
Taken away so young
Taken away without a warning

I know you and you're here
In every day we live
I know her and she's here
I can feel her when I sing

Hey Laura, where are you now
Are you far away from here
I don't think so
I think you're here
Taking our tears away

Columbus -- the ohio parole board has decided to release a man convicted in 1987 for his involvement in the fatal shooting of a denison university student.
Gordon newlin, 60, will be released from prison on or before june 18, ohio department of rehabilitation and correction spokesman mike davis said.
On april 17, 1982, denison university student laura carter, 18, was sitting in the back seat of her parents' vehicle when she was shot by a stray bullet from gunfire exchanged by newlin and others in columbus.
In a vehicle then on foot, newlin and his brother pursued two others, who had fired at them. Newlin told police the other shooter thought newlin had shot a friend, according to the case summary.
Carter's parents, of wayne, pa. , were visiting their daughter, a denison university lacrosse player, that day. The family and carter's friends were headed to a columbus restaurant to celebrate the team's win against oberlin college, according to a 1982 advocate article.
The university flew its flag at half-staff the monday after carter's death.
"on a small campus like denison, you can feel it all over campus. It's devastating. It's especially senseless in that she had so much going for her," the rev. Martha weatherhead, acting dean of denison's swasey chapel, said in a 1982 article.
Carter's death inspired the song, "think of laura," by singer-songwriter christopher cross.
Newlin was not arrested until august 1985. He was sentenced to 27 years to life in prison for aggravated murder and other charges in march 1987, according to court records.
On tuesday, the full ohio parole board met to review newlin's case. Despite opposition from the franklin county prosecutor's office, the board elected to release newlin by june 18 to parole supervision, according to the decision.
Newlin's age, time served, response to programming while incarcerated and release plan made him a good candidate for early release, according to the decision.

1986, one year after high school graduation, my mother was killed in a car accident when I had a seizure to too high of a dose of a medication a physician gave to me; woked with cadavers later in medical training but seeing someone you love so much with their upper body crush into their pelvis was and still shocks me when I think about it, but am very spiritual and can feel my mother at times and all photos taken of me day or night, wherever, whenever had a very white orb of white light next to me. She keep the family together which now doesn't communicate and was a friend to the end with every person she came into contact with and it has became the same way for me as I'm a friend to anyone to the end and try to brighten their day.

I have always loved this song from the first time I ever heard it. I never knew the name of it or who sang it but every now & then when I would hear it on the radio, I listened to it instead of turning the station. A few months back mmm in November of 2009, I was driving in my Mustang Convertible & I heard the song on the radio & decided that I was going to find out the name of the song & the artist by Googling it when I got home & sure enough I did. Now I listen to Think Of Laura several times a month on my computer. I think Christopher Cross looks alot like my friends ex (Donald Goodman) from Kokomo, in. Anyway, I love your music & I feel you are a very talented musician.

The song is very literally about a young girl who was the college roommate and sorority sister of the woman he was dating at the time.
Cross had met the woman, Paige, after a concert, and had begun romancing her, even though she was attending college, whereas he was eventually going so far as to title his 2nd album after her ("Another Page"). Paige was featured in the album sleeve sitting on a chair, for those who have ever seen the album.
During this period a bizare and tragic event occurred during the homecoming weekend at the college. Laura was struck by a stray bullet fired during a bank robbery, and killed while driving in a car with her parents. The randomness and extreme tragedy of this event was well known throughout the campus, and of course, emotionally devastating to Paige.
Cross, who had met Laura through Paige, wrote the song as a tribute to her.

For me laura is a kind of a girl where most people around her loved her, laura is a person who are willing to died because of friendship, she is an pop star in her town because of her goodness. That's the kind of girl she is, but time comes, laura has passed away unexpectedly. People that she left behind such as her family, cousins, friends, etc. Has been sad. They missed laura. The way she is. But instead of being sad, be happy. Co'z that's what laura wants.

Obviously this is about a women named Laura who dies but it has many meanings to those who it touches. For those who have lost a love one named Laura, I'm sure it has extremly special meaning whether it was a sister, aunt, cousin, friend, mother or grandmother. My mother was in hospice for 2 days before she passed away and my husband and I played this song on our laptop 2 hours before she took her last breath. This was the very last song she heard before she died and her name was Laura. Before she even became sick, when I would hear this song it always made me sad because I knew the day would come when I would lose her and it would then have even more meaning for me. Thank you Christopher for writing this song in honor of your Laura which has touched so many lives. What better way to pay respect and honor your Laura and so many others' Laura's too. Your song will live beyond all the pain loss brings to those who have had their Loved Laura pass on.
