5 Seconds Of Summer – Invisible lyrics
[Verse 1: Calum]
Another day of painted walls and football on the TV
No one sees me
I fade away, lost inside a memory of someone's life
It wasn't mine

[Chorus: Calum]
I was already missing before the night I left
Just me and my shadow and all of my regrets
Who am I? Who am I when I don't know myself?
Who am I? Who am I? Invisible

[Verse 2: Calum]
Wasted days, dreaming of the times I know I can't get back
It seems I just lost track
Looking on as all of life's colours seem to fade to grey
I just walked away

[Chorus: Calum]
I was already missing before the night I left
Just me and your shadow and all of my regrets

Who am I? Who am I when I don't know myself?
Who am I? Who am I? Invisible

Who am I? Who am I when I don't know myself?
Who am I? Who am I? Invisible
Who am I? Who am I when I don't know myself?
Who am I? Who am I? Invisible

[Bridge: Calum]
Another day, the walls are built to keep me safe
I can't escape, it's too late

This song is probably one of my favorites off of the "SGFG" album. It correlates a lot with the boy's personal lives. (Ashton's neglect from his father, Calum leaving amazing football opportunities for the band, etc.) Not only does it connect with the boys, but I think this song has touched every person who has heard it so far. To begin with, I think that depression and suicide is sadly immensely prevalent in today's society. People everywhere are hurting. If you listen closely towards the beginning and middle/end of the song, you can hear the faint sound of a typewriter. Maybe the typewriter signifies one writing a suicide note; for them, it is the last straw. Even the ones you thought would always be there for you don't understand.Talking to people doesn't help. They don't seem to care. However, this song is definitely more on the "anti-suicide" spectrum. It's normal to feel isolated and trapped inside of your own dark mind. You'll be okay. You'll grab life by the balls and make it out alive! For some, this song may not ride as deep as suicide. It may just be about what one feels daily. People tend to feel as if no one notices them, and this leads to depression, self-isolation, and regret. You may even feel as if you don't know yourself anymore. You had it all going for you at one point. What the hell happened? You're trapped inside your own jail of a head and from what you can see so far, there is no way out.
But you haven't seen it all yet. You've only been through a part of it. You are heard, you are cared for. After all, flowers have to grow through the deepest layers of dirt before they sprout into something beautiful - something full of life. If you're reading this, please know that you are not invisible.

Wow Livylynn97, you are really wise. This song is my favorite too. I've become highly skilled at the technique of being invisible, so I could survive an abusive childhood. But it is painfully lonely behind those walls and does lead to thoughts of suicide. Thanks for caring enough to write. Your words are super cool. Your interpretation of the lyrics is brilliant. Your understanding of pain is insightful. For once I feel accepted and not judged by this song and by you.

I believe that this song is about Ashton specifically, if this is unknown then Ashton suffers from anxiety and depression and when he was only 16 he attempted suicide. He overdosed on his antidepressants and anxiety meds. He also still has self harm scars today. At the beginning of the song we hear Mikey say “W-What’s That?” As if he says something (Ashtons suicide note) and the a typewriter started. The reason I think this song is about Ash and how Mikey and Cal found his suicide note is because of what Mikey says at the start and the typewriter is as if someone is typing the note throughout the song.
