3 Doors Down – Citizen Soldier lyrics
Beyond the boundaries of your city's lights,
Stand the heroes waiting for your cries.
So many times you did not bring this on yourself,
When that moment finally comes,
I'll be there to help.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I'll be right here.
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We'll always be ready because we will always be there.

When there are people crying in the streets,
When they're starving for a meal to eat,
When they simply need a place to make their beds,
Right here underneath my wing,
You can rest your head.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I'll be right here!
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We'll always be ready because we will always be there...

There... There... There...

Hope and pray that you'll never need me,
But rest assured I will not let you down.
I'll walk beside you but you may not see me,
The strongest among you may not wear a crown.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I'll be right here!
On that day when you don't have the strength for the burden you bear,
I'll be right here!
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
(Citizen soldiers)
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We'll always be ready because we will always be there.

The meaning of this song is about the salute to soldiers. I'm going to the national guard soon. Have to talk to my recruiter and everything to make sure everything is set up. My parents thinks I'm stupid and can't do it but if you put your mind to something you can do anything. I'm also planning to go in the military because I'm an international adoptee and had a chance to live in America and given chances to live in a democracy. I would love to fight for my country who gave me to live my own life and make my own choices. Wish me luck.

This song is not just about the soldiers in iraq, bt about the everyday soldiers that simply help you, such as your friends and family. Or even a complete stranger can be a hero. I get that from "the strongest among you may not wear a crown." I have great respect for the soldiers in Iraq. One of them is my best Friends older brother, Nathan Webb. But anyone can be a hero. All you have to do is care.

Well I think in a way this song is saying that even tho we don't recognize it theres someone always there fighting for us, I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who is in the army and we have noticed something, there are roads and highways named after base ball players and what not but when it comes too all our soldiers leaving and going off risking their lives for us, where are roads named after them, in our town there are only 2 signs about the military and that's outside the recruiting office, I think this song says alot about stuff like that, we don't recognize our soldiers enough at all, I mean theyre always out there fighting for our freedom and yet look how little its talked about.

Yes, in one way this song can be taken as a salute to the soldiers, but there is another point besides that. It means that when there is no more hope left. Someone will save you from your troubles if you are open to them. That there is always a place to go no matter what happens. Also in the line "So many times you did not bring this on yourself." it means that did the citizen really deserve to have their life taken from them when they did nothing to earn their death. That instead of the one truly responsible for war taking the blame. The authorities send innocent people to fight they're own disputes. Also It can be talking about anyone or anything that saves us from evil or destruction. When I am saying this I do not mean to offend anyone I'm sorry if I do, I really am. And I still am agreeing with other posts saying this song is about the military. But like Kairikate52 said this song has multiple interpretations.

This song is obviously for the National Guard.
Although I do believe everyone can get more out of it. I listened to this song when my sister was having medical troubles, and I now know that not only does it pertain to the Nation Guard, but it also tells us to stay strong for those in need of it and that we should take it upon ourselves to help those who need it, without large credit or reimbursement.

The word citizen soldier actually refers to the term used in colonial times when the national guard was the only form of the american military. Farmers and normal citizens. The first name was minute men and they were used to fend off the british 1636 I do believe is when the actual first nation guard was formaly formed. And since then they have been known as The Army National Guard, or Citizen Soldiers as stated in this song. The National guard is what made all the other branches of the military so when the marines say they are the best and toughest well the latter part might be true but the best branch is truly the you. S. National Guard. Hooah!
