Blaqk Audio – Matrimony And Dust lyrics
[Verse 1]
On that night that I
Got lost within the dust
It had filled my lungs
With the memory of us
On that night when we
Met upon the barren field
Your embrace told me
Not to tell you how I feel

[Chorus]
You had ripped your jeans
(You had ripped your jeans)
Somehow
You said you’d fallen down
(“And would you believe”)
Somehow
(“That I am married now”)
You had ripped your jeans
(“Somehow”)
You said you’d fallen down
(“And would you believe
That somehow I am married now”)

[Verse 2]
On that night that I
Was lost within the dust
It had filled my lungs
With the memory of us
On that road when we
Spoke of stone and dust and light
You had everything
But a place to stay the night

[Chorus]
You had ripped your jeans
(You had ripped your jeans)
Somehow
You said you’d fallen down
(“And would you believe”)
Somehow
(“That I am married now”)
You had ripped your jeans
(“Somehow”)
You said you’d fallen down
(“And would you believe
That somehow I am married now”)

[Bridge]
“What are the chances?
These circumstances?
And no one else around?
I can’t remember how I arrived here
Or how I’d fallen down”
What are my chances?
These circumstances?
Yours was the closest bed
I can’t remember just how I got here
I must have hit my, I must have hit my head”

[Verse 3]
On that road when we
Spoke of stone and dust and light
You had everything
But a place to stay

[Chorus]
You had ripped your jeans
(You had ripped your jeans)
Somehow
You said you’d fallen down
(“And would you believe”)
Somehow
(“That I am, I am”)
You had ripped your jeans
(You had ripped your jeans)
Somehow
You said you’d fallen down
(“And would you believe
That somehow I am married now”)

I keep thinking about this song. The more I hear it, the more I think it's about two ex-lovers (obvious) who haven't seen each other in a long time. Both have residual feelings, though one has moved on more and is married. They have either run into each other or met to somewhere and caught up. Lover A (singer Davey) knows not to tell Lover B how he feels, but there still seems to be some chemistry.

While lover A is still longing for the other, Lover B may start to feel the "what if" moments. As in, "what if we were still together? Where would we be?" All those sorts of feelings. Lover B seemingly doesn't have a place to stay and Lover A offers that they can stay with them. However it happens, something happens. They end up having sex. The longing sound in the song could go either way for lover A and that they are conflicted about how this makes them feel, but it was in the moment and it was more of a last moment together. A goodbye. Something they can both take with them. Morality on a cheating spouse aside and the terrible repercussions something like that could have on a marriage, there's something oddly beautiful about this song. It's like being able to get that forbidden moment, just to know, one last time. One last goodbye and no one can take that away from them.

This song is about ex-couple or lovers (true, very obvious). They obviously broke up a long time ago or ended their relationship. After many years of no contact or keeping in touch with each other, they suddenly bumped with each other and their old feelings came back. The guy is still very much in love with the girl. It seems the girl moved on and found someone else and it is the guy he married.

They probably wanted to talk and they missed each other. The girl met the guy without the knowledge of her husband.
Both of them were unaware of their feelings for each other. The girl possibly still had feelings with her ex-lover or boyfriend. Both of them gave in to temptation and they became intimate and passionate. If the other person has no place to stay, it was not right to stay with the ex-lover. One last goodbye and no one can take that away from them?
Too obvious that one who is married deceived their spouse and the one who is not married is deceiving themselves and the ex-lover. This generation, majority are cheating spouses and those who are attracted to those who are married are obviously want to destroy a marriage. Moral story: If you will not be faithful with your spouse, don't get married and don't cheat! Be sure if you are getting married, choose someone who will be faithful and will not deceive you and cheat on you. If you are still in love with your bf/gf or lover, be honest with your feelings for each other.
