Bunga Tanjung is the flower of the Tanjung Tree (aka spanish cherry, bullet wood, maulsari, elanji etc). The plant is indigenous to India and Sri Lanka but was brought over to the South East Asian archipelago by ancient traders and grows in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Its flower is sweet smelling, a favourite in adorning the hair of fair maidens. Literal translation, Bunga = flower, Tanjung = cape.
