Won't walk the Earth a specter
Won't hold my tongue from lashing out
This is my writ of honor
Drawn by the blood that I have shed
The beasts will soon assemble
Conjoining in their putrid flesh
Their hearts don't beat desire
They pump violence and poison
Flesh opens up, blood's retreating
Flesh opens up, blood's retreating
Death's embracing, all is ending
Death's embracing, all is ending
Time will not heal all of your pain
I cannot wait for it all to come crashing
Down
The monsters walk among us
Leeching the blood out from what's good
Infecting at transmission
Swallowing innocence from life
Our time has come to stand forth
The wretched womb from which they feed
Behold the loathsome demons
Send them into the hell they made
Flesh opens up, blood's retreating
Flesh opens up, blood's retreating
Death's embracing, all is ending
Death's embracing, all is ending
Time will not heal all of your pain
I cannot wait for it all to come crashing
Down on your face, ripping your veins out
Your insides win and kill you from within [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/trivium/shogun.html ]
And the seas will rise as serpents
Spawned from the mouth of Earth's surface
Soon the skies will fall fast, burning
Open wide and eat the suffering
The pulse is now quickening
Softly, it's painstaking
Look within to calm the storm
Raging inside the form
There's no turning back
For I'm witness to the changing
Take all you have brought to sacrifice
For you will lose much more
If you succeed in this battle
You still will lose so much more
The pulse is now quickening
Softly, it's painstaking
Look within to calm the storm
Raging inside the form
There's no turning back
For I'm witness to the changing
Take all you have brought to sacrifice
For you will lose much more
If you succeed in this battle
You still will lose so much more
4x
Time has come to face all evil
Now the seas rise up as serpents
Spawned from the mouth of Earth's surface
As the skies now fall fast burning
Open wide and face the suffering
The inferno spews out hell's horde
Casting the flames upon our world
As death eclipses all the light
We make our last stand, 'til death: fight
Time will not heal all of your pain
I cannot wait for it all to come crashing
Time will not heal all of your pain
I cannot wait for it all to come crashing
Down on your face, ripping your veins out
Your insides win and kill you from within

Reminds me of a japanese manga animation. Probably due the the name of the song, but those films often have demons and perverse types of fleshly things going on, just like in the lyrics

The futility of the fight. Time will always be the victor.

I can say with confidence, hands down best song by trivium. That's my opinion.
(won't walk the earth a specter
won't hold my tongue from lashing out
this is my writ of honor
drawn by the blood that i have shed
the beasts will soon assemble)
To me this song is about one rising above the evils plaguing the world. Not only that but it gives a strong sense of fighting those evils and enduring a lot of tribulation in the process.
(time will not heal all of your pain
i cannot wait for it all to come crashing
down
the monsters walk among us
leeching the blood out from what's good
infecting at transmission
swallowing innocence from life
our time has come to stand forth
the wretched womb from which they feed
behold the loathsome demons
send them into the hell they made
flesh opens up, blood's retreating)
I'm going to go even further on a limb towards the end of the song the theme somewhat changes... Well ... More of shifts to something more specific. I think "the seas" refer to the mass of humans, and they are being refered to as serpents(saying they spawned from the mouth of earth's surface reinforces that) the skies fall fast burning sounds like heaven takes a heavy blow. While hell is unleashing its fury. And it sounds like evil is winning the battle ... ,but the song itself seems to be about a 3rd party unassociated with either, and that third party is more resilient than either anticipated.
(now the seas rise up as serpents
spawned from the mouth of earth's surface
as the skies now fall fast burning
open wide and face the suffering
the inferno spews out hell's horde
casting the flames upon our world
as death eclipses all the light
we make our last stand, 'til death: fight)
I know most people are going to think i took this song way out of context, but trivium has a nack for writing songs that are against the masses, god, and satan. I believe the lyrical themes tied to this one is parallel to into the mouth of hell we march as well. (note they never seem to reveal the real intentions in the lyrics) this is why i like them
When i listen to this song, i think of the seven samurai. In the beginning, the seven of them were hired by a warlord to fight a battle, though they didn't want to because they felt their was no honor in joining with him. In the beginning of the song, all seven of them are fighting against their lord's enemies. When the song gets to the middle, after the second chorus, the battle is quickly reaching its climax, and the samurai's side is winning, but their lives are lost as a result, or so they thought. When the song starts to get slow, the samurai are all lying unconscious.
They soon wake up, but are wounded, and are looking around at the battlefield, at all of the bodies lying there. Seeing as they have no more meaning to be on the battlefield, they start to walk off, but can't as they are so wounded. They collaspe near a village, where they are healed and are treated kindly by the villagers. But soon they hear that their former warlord plans to attack the village. The seven samurai fight once more against the warlord, and succeed in destroying him and their army. However, they all lose their lives once more. They are remembered by the villagers for their sacrifice.
To me, this song talks about the government feels soldiers lives are expendable, and that they quickly be replaced. The line 'you will lose so much more' proves that. The government wins the war, but they lost so many of their troops' lives. But the soldiers don't care about this, because they are fighting to protect something that is very dear to them, but the government fails to see this.
Yeah, feel free to agree or disagree. Just wanted to put my opinion in.
This definitely sounds as if its about the apocalypse. The use of words such as 'serpentine' and 'spawned' give a feeling of the genesis which (allegedly) chronicles the rapture from which the devil comes up from hell and takes over the earth while god saves those pure. Brilliant lyrics, the evil overtone and the coarse chords are brilliant. Peace, 8/10
