I think that this is talking about how life here on earth is the masquarade, and the grand ball is our lives here on earth. But once you look deeper and "melt the plastic", there is more than running around trying to be what everyone wants. The true life we are to live requires us to "rise from the ashes" and speak the truth of living god who wants more for us than just conforming.

This song is showing that many times christians want to tell the world about god, but sometimes we put on our mask and say "we'll say something next time. " this song is saying that the person is not afraid to share the good news of jesus christ with each other, but when it says "i'm not okay" it means they're obviously afraid at that moment. We say we aren't afraid when we truly are sometimes. It's hard, it is so hard it seems like. But at the same time, it's the easiest thing in the world.

This song is a strong religious song about one's faith in God. It is a song about a person saying they are not afraid of publicly displaying their faith. But at the same time they are saying that they are "not okay", meaning that the don't want to be afraid, but at times they are. This is where the "masquerade" comes in. This person is a person that wants to serve God publicly and show their faith publicly but at times he or she is uncomfortable or unwilling to do so.
I think this is an amazingly written and played song that deals with a struggle that many people have and go through on a daily basis.
